Lounging by the pool, or walking along the river… something happens, and you fall in the water. You’re okay… Then you realize that your phone was in your pocket.
You realize that the protective case you have your phone in, is not exactly water-proof. More like water-resistant. Now your phone won’t turn on.
You’ve all heard the advice on FB… “Put it in a bag of uncooked RICE”. Let’s debunk that myth right here, right now. Rice won’t do much good. Uncooked rice will draw moisture (supposedly) out of the phone. But the reality is that the damage has already been done. With an active battery in your phone, corrosion will begin to form on the IC’s that push the power rails through the logic board. Even with all the rice in China, it won’t prevent the corrosion from destroying the circuits.
If you have insurance on the phone, there will usually be a $50 to $100 deductible fee, and the company will send you a new phone. If you don’t have insurance, they will tell you that you must purchase a new phone. In some cases that may cost you up to $1,000!
What Can You Do?
If it’s an older style phone, open it up and take the battery out. Clean out any moisture with a paper towel, and let the phone dry out for a few days. If it is an iPhone, or a newer Samsung where the battery does not come out without disassembly the phone, take the phone (or ship it) to iTronix Labs.
We will open up the phone, and clean each connector, and test the micro power rails. We will replace any defective chips, test the phone, and then clean it up before it comes back to you.
